The Nairobi Securities Exchange-listed paint firm Crown Paints has recently entered into a strategic partnership with leading regional low-cost airline Jambojet. The cooperation will see the firms collaborating in business and sustainability initiatives in environment and education.
The two corporates have partnered to provide a facelift to Kibos School for the Blind, a mixed boarding school in Kisumu, Kenya. Established in 1960, the school hosts over 200 students, the majority of whom are visually impaired. Jambojet has been supporting the school since 2020, and the partnership with Crown Paints will ensure the school structures are repainted and in good condition.
During the partnership formalization at Crown Paints offices in Nairobi, Crown Paints Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Rakesh Rao, noted that education is key in empowering the community. "We are proud to join Jambojet in this initiative which we believe will go a long way in enhancing the school’s image as well as creating a positive ambiance for the special students and teachers to enjoy learning. As market leaders, we set the pace in the provision of service to our communities. This is in line with our main objective of transforming lifestyles", Dr. Rao added.
Crown Paints will provide paint and manpower for the project, which targets repainting 16 structures, including 12 classrooms, an administration block, a dining hall, an assembly hall, and the gate. This comes after the school administration appealed to Jambojet in a previous visit in 2022 to assist in restoring and facelifting the school structures.
Jambojet Chief Executive Officer, Karanja Ndegwa, reiterated Mr. Rao’s sentiments on education, adding that education is one of the pillars of Jambojet’s sustainability program. "We have previously supported Kibos School for the Blind with learning aids, including braille machines, printers and braille paper. We thank Crown Paints for supporting our initiative by providing the much-needed facelift of the school. As the leading player in aviation, our focus in education aims at reducing the barriers to skill development, aligned with the Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4)," he said.
Jambojet launched its sustainability program in 2016, focusing on education and environment. The airline currently supports 5 initiatives in education, impacting over 50 scholars and 6 industries in environment across its 7 domestic destinations.
