The Content Development Challenge is an initiative by eKitabu aimed at empowering learners with disabilities to access quality reading materials as well as encourage publishers to develop inclusive quality reading materials for all students.

The digital learning content distributor conducted hands-on training with publishing teams and content developers for over nine months, equipping them with open source tools and the know-how on how to make their content accessible. Entries from publishers were reviewed according to the Content Development Challenge accessibility scorecard that eKitabu developed with input from experts in global standards for accessibility, including Benetech and DAISY Consortium.

Present at the event was Chief Guest, Fredrick Haga OGW, Director of Special Needs Education in the Ministry of Education. Director Fredrick emphasized on the need for all content developers to adopt born accessible publishing practices that will enable them to produce quality early grade digital reading materials that are accessible for all learners including learners with disabilities, leaving no one behind.
