Mukesh V. Thakwani, Founder and CEO of B5 Plus Ltd, gives an overview of the different awards received by the Ghanaian steel and iron company, which has once again been recognized for its efforts in the industry. He dedicated the awards to the workers of B5 Plus Ltd and believes the recognition will go a long way to motivate the workers to work harder.

“2020 has brought a lot of surprises for all of us. It has been a difficult year, especially with all the travel bans and things moving around, but still, as Ghana, we are really blessed that with the Government policies in place, we were able to fight COVID-19 and we fought it very well. Today, we can see that the whole Ghana economy has really been the winner in this difficult situation. I will give the credit to the whole Ghanaian society. Without them, it would not have been possible. Everyone followed the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and the Government, and today we are having less cases and we are very sure that together we will fight it and we will make sure COVID is gone beyond 2020”, says Mukesh V. Thakwani.

“It is very important for any industrialist in any environment to always be very competitive and innovative. With a competitive innovative approach and with the help of our dear workers, we are able to make the goods at a reasonable price. We are able to compete in the market and provide the best services. I think that is one aspect which is also very important. We are very thankful to the different organizers for making B5 Plus recognized for the hard work and we will give this credit to all our workers and all of our management people. Without them, it would not have been possible. But once you get a recognition it always keeps you on your toes, making sure that you keep on delivering the best. So, we are very thankful to Ghana Business Awards where B5 Plus was given a Dream Project of the Year and Steel Company of the Year Award for 2019. As for the Made in Ghana Awards, we receive the Overall Best Industrialist of the Year Award. Myself, I received the Hall of Fame for my contribution to the Ghanaian economy. B5 Plus received an award for its contribution to the steel manufacturing and heavy industry from Ghana Business Standard Authority, and I received the Outstanding Business Leader of the Year Award. At the same time, B5 Plus received the Outstanding Steel Company of the Year Award. So, we are really thankful to all the organizers for giving us the recognition and all these awards. That will really keep us on our toes, and we have to make sure that we keep moving forward with a bigger and a better vision. We really want to make the “made in Ghana” dream come true and see that everything is produced in Ghana when it comes to steel. Give us five years down the line and we can promise you that most of the products will be produced right here in Ghana. When we started just 20 years back, we used to import even a common nail from our neighboring countries. We are very proud to say that B5 Plus today exports not only to the neighboring countries, but to the whole West African market, and serves more than 1000 distribution outlets in Ghana.”

“The second and third phase are already in place. We started the fabrication plant this year and it is going very well. We are receiving orders not only in Ghana but also from the neighboring countries as our quality and services have been really appreciated by everyone. We have already started the melting unit as well and our rolling mill is just about to start. We are also doing a lot of expansion into the cold rolling section. So, we will request Government to make sure that we are able to get electricity and water at competitive rates so that we can really make our “made in Ghana” dream come true.”

“Presently, we have 15,000 Ghanaians working directly and indirectly with us and we would like to add that during this time of COVID-19, B5 Plus made sure not to fire a single employee. Rather, we hired some more people so as to continue with our construction work, so that we were able to create more and more jobs during those difficult times. We can only make the “made in Ghana” dream come true if it is possible to promote the goods which we are able to produce in Ghana. At the same time, we must be self-sufficient in producing those goods. Today, our fabrication department is able to produce not only for Ghana, but also for the West African market. The Government should immediately put a ban on the importation of any type of cheap products, and, at the same time, these goods should not be given any type of exemptions when entering the country.”

“B5 Plus engaged in delivering free oxygen supply to all Government and private hospitals, and as of today, since March, we have been delivering the oxygen free of cost and we will continue doing it until we are able to put COVID behind us.”

“B5 Plus has also contributed heavily into giving free food to the communities around us and we also donated to different organizations including the COVID Fund of the President.”

“Without the workforce you cannot grow. You need a good workforce. If you talk about China and the other Asian countries, they are able to produce competitive quality goods because of their workforce. Today, we are very proud to say that, into the fabrication department alone, B5 Plus was able to create jobs for more than 300 people and we were able to give training to more than 100 people. By giving this kind of training programs, even if they leave their B5 Plus job, at least they will have learned fabrication and they will be able to cater for their families. So, I think that industrialization is a very important aspect of any country. B5 Plus makes sure not only to create jobs, but at the same time create future entrepreneurs as well.”

“Our quality speaks for itself. B5 Plus has made its name in the last two decades for its quality service and competitive prices. When we say we deliver, we deliver the best at competitive rates at your doorsteps.”
