With Kenya now having an unprecedented number of people with access to smartphones, it is time we tapped into this revolution to reap its benefits, which is what the SIMTANK H2O smart water access solution has done.
Picture a school setup where a lot is being done to keep our kids healthy. This is leading to a diversion of focus from the core goal of education. While this seems inevitable, it couldn’t be much further from the reality with the SIMTANK H20 smart water storage platform; imagine an autonomous system taking care of the water and hygiene problem, so now your entire focus goes to educating the students; that’s what SIMTANK H20 smart water storage platform enables.
Maybe no one is in school and such context doesn’t resonate. You are just starting in life and the bills are getting too overwhelming. The water bill is surprisingly high and you keep wondering where the water goes. The SIMTANK H20 smart water storage platform is bundled with a mobile app that displays water usage graphs on a daily, weekly and monthly basis. The first step in problem solving involves finding the problem, right? With the usage data you’re able to know when the most volumes of water are used then decide if it is reasonable or wastage.
Now perhaps after years of working hard you have made a fortune for yourself. Maintaining it however requires you have a busy schedule thus the small things like checking if your water storage units have to be delegated to other people at a cost. Picture a typical day when after long meetings you go home and want to take a relaxing shower. You open the shower and no water comes out. The storage unit is empty and your hired labor is either complacent or genuinely forgot to refill the storage. Now you are at home with no water so you can’t take your shower, you can’t do basic hygiene chores and most likely you will have to order food as you won’t be able to prepare it without water either. That doesn’t sound good right?
In all the three scenarios, the SIMTANK H20 smart water platform is helping you solve a problem you have either directly (or by proxy, like the cases for landlords) experienced in the past. Now imagine never having to actively worry about water.
The SIMTANK H2O smart water platform, which is a product of Silafrica Kenya Ltd, is a smart water storage solution, which utilizes Internet of Things to monitor water levels and give a live visual representation to the owner through a mobile application. A sensor unit installed on the top of each water storage tank periodically monitors and sends the water level data using a dedicated IoT Network; Sigfox. These payloads are transmitted to the cloud, which interfaces with the mobile application to display the data on the owner’s SIMTANK mobile application.
The app includes a dynamic representation of the current tank level as well as water usage data displayed on daily, weekly and monthly graphs. There are different color codes depending on water level and alerts start showing when the level is lower than the threshold keeping you aware of your water situation. The app also allows the user to request for a tank refill as easy as one would request for a ride. It’s like Uber for water.
After the onset COVID-19, Silafrica Kenya Ltd, in partnership with Liquid Intelligent Technologies, Mara Moja Transport and Ultra Red Technologies rolled out the SIMTANK H2O Hand Wash station, which is one of several applications that can be developed on the base SIMTANK H2O smart water storage platform. This was from personal experiences where Mr. Akshay Shah, Group Executive Director at Silafrica, would find most hand wash stations dry whenever he wanted to use them. With the stations being standalones and no refilling mechanism provided, they would remain dry days after installation. One SIMTANK hand wash station allows for four people to use it concurrently consequently saving a lot of time compared to the normal hand wash stations. The stations come with all the features of the SIMTANK H2O smart water storage platform and therefore are ideal for companies, institutions, schools, or organizations who need a permanent solution for user hygiene that doesn’t come with extra requirements, like having to hire new staff to monitor and refill the stations.
