Clifton Homes Charity Run raised over $5,000 for New Horizon Special School in Accra

Clifton Homes Charity Run raised over $5,000 for New Horizon Special School in Accra

On Monday 4th February, a relay team of Clifton Homes employees ran non-stop around the clock in a 24 Hour Charity Run raising over $5,000 for New Horizon Special School.

The challenge started at 10am, with a team of over 40 Clifton Homes employees running in relay through the night for 24 hours non-stop. The real estate developer was raising money for New Horizon Special School in Cantonments and pledged to double all donations received with its own funds. After generous cash donations from Clifton Homes’ customers, suppliers and employees the charity event has so far raised over $5,000 for the worthy local educational establishment.

The event took place in the newly opened 350sqm Wellness Complex at Embassy Gardens, Cantonments (Clifton Homes’ latest residential development in Accra). The cardio zone on the gym mezzanine, overlooks the courtyard and communal gardens outside with an array of fitness equipment. The team members ran sequentially on the treadmills, pairing up to ensure each participant had a partner for moral support – which was particularly valued by those team members running in the middle of night!

The Clifton Homes relay team comprised employees from all business divisions in the company including construction workers, accountants, drivers, sales personnel and all of the senior executive team. For many participants it was their first experience of running on a treadmill machine, but they took to the challenge with determination and stamina. “At Clifton Homes, we really emphasise the importance a healthy lifestyle, and place wellness at the centre of our design process when developing new residential communities” said CEO Ann Brewin. “A Charity Run therefore seemed a fitting way to raise money for a worthy cause. Our team has a strong collective commitment to fitness and wellbeing, and it was very evident last week as employees volunteered to take in the challenge. We hope the event also encourages residents at Embassy Gardens to make use of the new Wellness Complex on a regular basis as part of a healthy lifestyle”.

This not the first time Clifton Homes has raised money for New Horizon Special School. The facility was founded in 1972 and aims to provide special education and vocational training for children and adults with special needs. The funds raised will help with the school’s expansion plans as they aim to widen their intake. “We are delighted to be supporting this worthy cause again” said Ms Brewin “and are very grateful to all our residents and suppliers who donated”.
