Kuwaiti airlines market is divided into two air carriers – the dominant Kuwait Airways, the flagship state-owned airline, and Jazeera Airways. There used to be a third air carrier—Wataniya Airways, which ceased all its operations in 2011.
The new, long-awaited terminal at Kuwait International Airport, which will provide the highest level of passenger comfort, will significantly enhance Kuwait International Airport’s status as the gateway to the State of Kuwait. Construction of the terminal is expected to be completed within seven years from the date of initiation.
The new terminal at Kuwait International Airport is expected to initially accommodate additional 13 million passengers per year. The subsequent expansion phases would enhance the capacity to between 25 million and 50 million passengers a year.
A $4.3bn construction contract was awarded to Turkish company Limak, making it the biggest tender awarded abroad in a single package by Turkish contractors.
In 2014, the value for Kuwait’s air transport, registered carrier departures worldwide was 28,242. The peak of Kuwait’s registered carrier departures reached 41,848 in 2010, while the lowest ever recorded value was 6,700 in 1970.
