Nairobi Enterprises Limited (NEL) started of as a wholesaler of medical equipment in 1986 as a family owned business run by a father and two sons. After the passing of their father, the two sons (Rajan Dhanani and Perviz Dhanani) diversified from NEL to start a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant called Universal Pharmacy (K) Ltd. Universal Pharmacy (K) Ltd then flourished into Universal Cooperation Ltd which was one of the first WHO (World Health Organization) prequalified plants in the East African region.

After establishing this successful project, Rajan Dhanani decided to move back to focus on their initial company – NEL. Ever since he took over in 2010, NEL has seen tremendous growth with a growth rate of 20-25% per year.

Within these 9 years, NEL has branched out into several departments, including: oncology, dental, fertility drugs, radiology, radiotherapy, orthopaedics and many more. NEL has also increased its presence in the market by opening several showrooms in Kenya, one in the upmarket area of Westlands, one in Hurlingham and one in the CBD.
