Lebanon is a home to very luxurious hotels with rich past and bright future.

Phoenicia is a landmark of Lebanon, recently celebrating its 50th anniversary. Georg Weinlaender, Area General Manager of Phoenicia and Le Vendome, comments: “As the address with a reputation of hosting head of states, celebrities, trade and diplomatic delegations visiting from around the world, Phoenicia remains a living legend to enjoy and rediscover.”

But Phoenicia is not the only “hotel star” in Lebanon. Business travelers and tourists visiting Lebanon have many luxurious, 5* hotels to choose from: InterContinental Le Vendome, Le Royal, Four Seasons, Le Gray, Albergo, Metropolitan Palace – all located in the capital of Beirut, Byblos Sur Mer in Byblos (Jbeil) or Hotel Al Bustan in Broummana.

According to Central Administration of Statistics, Lebanon had 300 hotels and 99 furnished apartments buildings in 2008. The number of hotel rooms reached 15,000 units in the same year. According to the Directorate of General Security, grand total of tourist arrivals for January and February 2012 is 1,056,033, out of which more than 500,000 are from Syria, 22,000 from the Americas, and more than 54,000 from Europe.

“The direct contribution of Travel & Tourism to GDP was LBP6,229.0bn (9.8% of total GDP) in 2011, and is forecast to rise by 4.5% in 2012, and to rise by 3.0% pa, from 2012-2022, to LBP8,758.7bn in 2022 (in constant 2011 prices),” says World Travel and Tourism Council. Travel & Tourism totally contributed to the Lebanese GDP by 35,2% in 2011 and almost 40% is forecasted for 2012. The sector should generate almost 10% of total employment in 2012.

As for the investments into hotel sector in Lebanon, Mazen Salha, Chairman of SGHL (Societe Des Grands Hotels Du Liban), claims that budget hotels should have bright future in Lebanon. Though there is no mass tourism yet, budget hotels in Lebanon will be in high demand once the infrastructure is ready.
