Longhorn Publishers’ Elders of the Mace by Mutu wa Gethoi, won the best book award under the English Adult Category during this year’s Text Book Centre Jomo Kenyatta Prize for Literature Award ceremony, held on 28th September 2019, at Pride Inn Hotel.

The prestigious literary award, debuted in 1972 under the stewardship of the Kenya Publishers Association, celebrates exceptional literary works by Kenyan writers in the categories of; English Adult Category, Kiswahili Adult Category, English Youth Category, Kiswahili Youth Category, English Children Category, Kiswahili Children Category and the Wahome Mutahi Literary Award.

Elders of the Mace, which took 20 years to complete, is a fictional story set in Watuland that reveals the Africans’ effort to address issues affecting them through the integration of modern education, technology, and traditional culture.
