Majestically perched 710 metres above sea level the iconic statue of Christ the Redeemer can be seen from practically anywhere you care to roam in the city of Rio de Janeiro, he´s behind you when you´re lying on the beach, turn a corner whilst wandering through the city and all of a sudden he´s staring down at you, but whilst hoards of tourists choose to be driven up to the statue on air-conditioned buses you also have the option of embarking on your own personal pilgrimage and walk up there.
Starting in the wild gardens of a beautiful mansion, where monkeys and tropical birds come to visit, you will be guided up a steep path through the jungle for 2.5 hours to the entrance of the iconic statue.
The hike is challenging but intensely rewarding as you are offered unimpeded views of the marvellous city itself unfettered by the throngs of people you´ll encounter at the statue.
After your prayers have been said you´ll be driven down to the bohemian village of Santa Teresa for a well-earned lunch and a wander through this unique and charming neighbourhood.
