Virtual Pay Secures Visa Principal Acquirer License to Accelerate Cross-Border Payments

Virtual Pay Group, a global fintech company specialising in digital payment solutions, has been granted a Visa Principal Acquirer license, strengthening its ability to directly process card transactions and serve merchants across Africa and beyond.
The license enables Virtual Pay to process transactions directly, simplifying merchant onboarding and reducing friction in digital commerce, particularly in cross-border markets.
“This is a major milestone for us,” said CEO David Morema. “Becoming a Visa Principal Acquirer enables us to deliver localised, secure, and seamless digital payments at scale.”
Enhanced Capabilities for Merchants
With the license, Virtual Pay can now:
- Directly acquire card transactions for Visa across multiple markets
- Streamline merchant onboarding through in-house approvals
- Offer faster, more secure processing for cross-border and multi-currency transactions
The upgrade positions the company more competitively in a crowded payments landscape, where speed, flexibility, and compliance are critical differentiators.
Virtual Pay’s platform offers all-in-one global payment services, including virtual cards, mobile payouts, and API-integrated transaction tools. The Visa certification further enhances its infrastructure, allowing it to deliver more control and cost efficiency to merchants operating across diverse geographies.
Mauritius-Based, Globally Positioned
Headquartered in Ebene, Mauritius, Virtual Pay leverages the country’s strategic location and regulatory framework to serve both African and global clients. The firm established its global HQ there in late 2023, reinforcing its positioning as a hub for borderless financial services.
The Visa Principal Acquirer license underscores a broader fintech trend: rising demand from emerging markets for platforms that can handle multi-currency, multi-channel digital transactions with ease.
As the digital economy continues to evolve, Virtual Pay’s strengthened capabilities signal its ambition to scale rapidly and lead the push for frictionless digital commerce across high-growth markets.
