Typotech Kenya Ltd Reinvents Itself as a One-Stop Printing and Packaging Solutions Provider in East Africa

In this section of the interview, Alfred Kandara highlights Typotech Kenya’s strategic focus on the fast-growing packaging segment as the main engine of growth for the company. He notes that while the commercial printing industry in East Africa is declining due to the rise of digital content, the packaging industry continues to experience sustained and accelerating demand. From paper and metal packaging to labels and textile printing, Kandara explains that packaging is an irreplaceable component of everyday life — from supermarket products to home-based manufacturing — and will remain a non-digital necessity.

Typotech Kenya is aligning its growth strategy with this trend, offering tailored solutions for paper packaging, metal substrates, corrugated materials, and even printed textiles. Kandara strongly emphasises that value addition through packaging is immense and unavoidable, as every product must be physically packed, labelled, and branded before entering the market. This focus on packaging not only meets current market demand but also positions Typotech as a leading provider of packaging solutions in Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia.

Looking ahead, Kandara outlines Typotech’s expansion strategy across the broader East African Community, targeting untapped markets like Rwanda, Burundi, DRC, South Sudan, and Somalia. The goal is first to achieve full regional coverage and then expand into Central and West Africa, aiming to serve the growing demand for modern, high-end packaging printing equipment and services.
