How Kibo Motorcycles Helped Save a Safari Rally Driver and Became a Model for Security Forces Across East Africa
In this section of the interview, Alvin Osura discusses the real-world impact of Kibo motorcycles on emergency response, public safety, and regional law enforcement cooperation. He highlights a notable incident during the 2023 Safari Rally in Naivasha, where a rally driver was seriously injured after an accident. Due to severe traffic congestion, conventional emergency vehicles could not reach the scene. Officers deployed on Kibo motorcycles were able to rapidly access the area, clear the route, establish a landing zone for an evacuation aircraft, and facilitate the driver’s transfer to hospital. According to Osura, this operation demonstrated the critical role of motorcycle mobility in safeguarding lives and enhancing Kenya’s international reputation for security and event management.
He explains that the adoption of motorcycles approximately four years ago has transformed law enforcement operations in both urban and rural environments, significantly improving the ability of security agencies to respond quickly and protect citizens.
The interview also explores the broader regional influence of Kenya’s motorcycle-based policing model. Osura describes how the Uganda Police Force benchmarked Kenya’s approach and sought training on integrating motorcycles into high-risk security operations. Kenyan officers subsequently trained Ugandan counterparts on riding techniques, motorcycle maintenance, and operational deployment using Kibo motorcycles. He notes that the programme strengthened Uganda’s policing capabilities and led to continued interest in expanding motorcycle-based training and procurement.
Finally, Osura offers advice to Kibo, emphasising that long-term success comes from understanding clients’ operational challenges and developing products that solve real problems. He praises Kibo’s responsiveness to feedback from law enforcement agencies and believes that as more regional security organisations learn from Kenya’s experience, Kibo will continue to contribute to safer communities while expanding its presence across East Africa.
