Citing just a few short facts in addition to the oil reserves: the region is tipped to hit a 12% contribution to the region’s GDP by 2013; the autonomous region boasts with 450 major projects valued at $21 Billion, of which at least 20% is being funded in part through Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) .
While there are wild cards developing this formerly nascent economic region, the track record has so far been a strong one. Due to the boom in the oil sector, construction and other sectors, local contracting companies experience a double digit growth. Most of the contractors focus on oil and gas projects, housing projects, infrastructure, industrial and real-estate projects.
The regulation of the ministry states that the largest projects are only available for 10 grade companies – the contracting company with financial capacity of no less than 100 million Iraqi Dinars.
