In the first quarter of 2017, BML Istisharat, a globally recognized core banking and insurance software provider based in Lebanon, secured 5 new contracts: BLOM Bank selected m-ICBS to allow its clients to use selected ICBS functions using their mobile phones for enquiries, transfers or updates, Qurtas Islamic Bank in Erbil acquired additional ICBS modules for its core banking functions, including Credit Facilities and Import Letters of Credit, Libank in Beirut acquired the ICBS Safe Deposit module, Union Bank of Iraq in Bagdad acquired the ICBS ATM/POS Interface module and finally, Credit Bank in Beirut acquired ICBS Interface with Bloomberg Interest Rates after having installed ICBS interface with Bloomberg Instruments.

The International Bank of Somalia (IBS) went live with ICBS E-banking basic functions in March 2017 and Lebanon and Gulf Bank – Beyrouth went live with ICBS – Forex and Money Market at the end of March 2017.

Two training courses took place in this quarter. The first was an ICBS functional training course concerning Nucleus, Accounting, Interest Calculation, Checks and Checkbooks, led by Kaline Noujeim, the Assistant Product Manager from the Banking Unit. This course ran from January 25th to February 2nd. The second course was a Loan module functional training course also led by Kaline Noujeim from March 27th to April 3rd.

There have been two new recruits in this quarter: Karam Abou Chahla, B.Sc. in Computer Science from Lebanese American University (LAU), joined the group as Programmer in the Banking unit and Chadi Jabbour, B.A. in Business Administration – Accounting from Sidon University College, joined as Chief Accountant.

In February 2017, the BML Istisharat offices in Beirut were visited by the Project Director and Deputy Chief Executive of BSN Bank Kuala-Lumpur as well as the Chief Executive Officer of Heitech. The BSN delegation discussed new projects for BSN after having gone live with ICBS Loans.

Additionally, a 20-day course on ICBS Central, Branch, International, Islamic Financing, and Savings Modules was given to Qurtas Islamic Bank system administrators from March 2nd to March 25th, led by Mr Jihad Chaker, Assistant Manager of the Banking Unit.

BML Istisharat also sponsored the Anta Akhi dinner. Anta Akhi is an NGO dealing with handicapped adults.
