Assessment of Capital Markets in Lebanon

The activity on the stock market in Lebanon was relatively modest in the first month of 2012. It followed the trend which started in 2010.

Politically, the capital markets are suffering from the paralysis of the successive governments that came after the 2009 elections in Lebanon.

Beirut Stock Exchange hopes that the new financial market law – which was issued in August 2011 and which provides for the creation and establishment of a financial markets’ authority which will have the power to supervise, regulate, and control all the financial market operators – will increase the depth and transparency of the stock market.
