COVID-19: MTN Uganda Donates Three Brand New Vehicles to the Coronavirus Task Force
MTN has proven to be a dependable partner in the fight against COVID-19 in Uganda. In a continuous effort to help defeat the pandemic, the telecom company has recently handed over three (3) brand new Nissan pickups to the President, the Prime Minister, and the COVID-19 task force, in order to ease transport issues.
In a continuous effort to help fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in Uganda, MTN has recently handed over three (3) brand new Nissan pickups to the President, the Prime Minister, and the COVID-19 task force, in order to ease transport issues.
It is not the first time MTN Uganda has made donations since the begining of the crisis. Chairman Charles Mbire recently revealed that MTN contributed towards National Water and Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) in order to provide water to the people living in water-stressed areas around Kampala in a bid to promote handwashing as one of the ways to prevent the spread of the deadly coronavirus. Additionally, sh297m were donated to the Uganda Red Cross Society (URCS) to aid in their duties of combatting the deadly virus. In total, MTN’s contribution to the fight against COVID-19 has reached over sh1b.
On top of that, MTN Uganda has been enabling its 12 million customers to send money for free and help family and friends to take care of themselves amidst this pandemic. The telecom is also making it possible for people to work from home and keep earning by providing affordable internet. The internet bundle dubbed “work from home” is meant to promote the concept of social distancing to further prevent the spread of the virus.
Besides, the telecommunication giant has zero-rated 18 educational websites to help pupils and students learn from home during the lockdown. Realising that the shutting of schools has left parents wondering how to keep their children engaged, MTN Uganda has decided to offer free access to websites as a way of helping learners study from home.
Additionally, MTN has also been working closely with the Ministry of Health, in order to promote the Ministry’s sensitization messages. In this regard, MTN offered some of its call center space to the Ministry’s officials to take calls from the public regarding COVID-19 emergencies and information. In an attempt to further support the government’s sensitization messages, the telecom company also availed free media channel space to the Ministry (radio, tv, social media, sms, call center IVR platform), and zero-rated Ministry of Health and World Health Organization (WHO) websites (www.who.int, www.health.go.ug and www.covid.gou.go.ug) so that the public can access information about the virus at no charge, in order to facilitate the flow of information.
So far, MTN has proven to be a dependable partner in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic in Uganda and the company is committed to continue working with the government, to reduce the impact and disruption that the pandemic is having on the lives of Ugandans.
