Tourism in Erbil | Overview of Tourism Sector in Erbil

According to the General Manager of Tangram Hotel Mrs. Doaa Amin, the tourism sector in Erbil still has to pick up.

There are local tourists visiting the city and they mostly come from Baghdad, Mosul, Kirkuk and they form the biggest segment of the tourism sector in Erbil (more than 80%). They usually come with their families during public holidays, religious occasions or shopping. Generally, the facilities are being put in place as well as the infrastructure in Erbil.

There are many conferences and exhibitions taking place in the city and these are attracting a lot of business tourism from the region (Turkey, GCC, Africa) and beyond. Consequently, hotels are being build up too, including international hotel brands. Also, airlines are steadily increasing the number of their flights into the region. Erbil is on its way to fully realize its potential in terms of tourism also thanks to the stability in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
