Lebanon have a potential to become another hub for medical tourism in the region – Lebanese hospitals have a capacity of 200,000 patients per year.
Most of the private hospitals and medical centers have a capacity of 75 to 100 beds. University hospitals and centers can cater for up to 200 stay-in patients. The university hospitals belong to particular universities such as AUB, LAU or USJ and they are owned and run by faculties of medicine.
Lebanon has a total of 130 hospitals spread throughout the country of which, 105 fall under the private sector and 20 under the public sector. One of the largest public hospitals in Lebanon, with a capacity of 450 beds is located in Beirut. The largest private hospital on the other hand is a part of American University Medical Centre.
Lebanese doctors are highly qualified, most of them have excellent experiences from Lebanon and also from abroad and they received their training either in the United States or Europe. There were 9,876 doctors in Lebanon in 2007, out of which 1,961 were female doctors. The number of Lebanese doctors is continuously growing.
