Rene Industries: Providing Affordable Quality Medicines to Uganda and East Africa

Headquartered in Kampala, Rene Industries began its journey in 1996 as Rene Pharmacy Limited, which imported and distributed pharmaceutical products. The founding directors, Mr. Rishi Vadodaria, a MBA graduate, and his wife Dr. Meera Vadodaria, a pharmacist, identified the need for the local production of quality generic and branded medicines to fulfill the health needs of Uganda and its neighboring countries. Today, Rene Industries has grown exponentially to become the leading manufacturer of quality pharmaceutical formulations for the entire East African region, employing over 500 people at its various facilities. The company is dedicated to the development, production and sale of high quality generic and branded products.

Its factory produces various Non-Beta Lactam and Beta Lactam dosage forms including: tablets, capsules, liquid orals, dry syrup, dry powder sachets and external preparations. It currently manufactures over 140 products, covering over 22 therapeutic ranges. The state-of-the art facility is uniquely designed with physical segregation between the stores, primary and secondary processing areas, in order to minimize the risk of cross contamination and ensure uni-directional material pattern. All incoming materials and finished goods are received and housed in dedicated stores that are temperature and humidity controlled. The general production facility is designed for solid oral and liquid dosage forms whereas the Beta-Lactum facility is designed for solid oral and dry powder for oral suspension dosage forms. The pharmaceutical manufacturing facility not only serves Uganda, but also exports to Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and Democratic Republic of Congo.

Rene Industries’ manufacturing facilities use the most advanced testing equipment to guarantee the quality of its products. Additionally, the company supervises suppliers’ procedures in order to assure that the highest quality materials are used in its products. Once a product gains supervisory approval and enters routine manufacturing, excellence is guaranteed throughout the process, for both drug substances and drug products. All products go through robust testing at every stage from inception to market as per British, United States and European Pharmacopeias, ensuring that all the products are of universal quality and in line with the World Health Organization’s Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) guidelines. Its QC lab is fully equipped with stability ovens, HPLC’s, dissolution baths, FTIR and UV spectrophotometer. Improvements are constantly considered so that processes and procedures are frequently updated. When products are released, Rene Industries continues to monitor them and carry out pharmacovigilance studies when they circulate in the market. Representative batches of all the company’s products are checked for stability to ensure that products remain safe and effective throughout their shelf life.

It is the mission of Rene Industries to develop, manufacture and market cost-effective, high quality medicines, providing accessibility and improving the quality of life in the local region with minimal dependency on imports. The company’s vision is to remain a trusted market leader in the pharmaceutical industry, and keep on enabling people to live a healthier life, as well as provide universal access to medicines.
