“We only have 19 banks in total and the aggregate branch size of these 19 banks is about 1,700. This number of banks has only been achieved in the last four years and before that there were only about 600 branches. It is in a fast-growing stage and I’m sure the future will also be good because the market is still untapped,” notes Abie Sano Mehamed, the president of Oromia International Bank.

Pasqua Giuseppe, a manufacturer of quality aluminum and metal works in Ethiopia, was established in 1965 by the father of Mrs Sonia Pasqua, the managing director of the company.
“We aspire to be leading in terms of quality customer services,” says Meaza Ashenafi, the chairperson of Enat Bank.
“When we came up with this idea, many people thought it was a joke because when people think of women and banking, they usually think in terms of micro-finance. But here, we wanted to change the narrative; we wanted to change the story about women and finance, and women and economic empowerment,” explains Meaza Ashenafi, the chairperson of Enat Bank.
“One of the drawbacks that a lot of the buyers complained about was that there wasn’t traceability in the commodity exchange system,” notes Michael Mamo, managing director of Addis Exporter.
Ethiopian coffee industry experienced a good growth during the past three years. However, “for 2014, it is going to be a very challenging year because the international market price has dropped dramatically and our local market situation is still very difficult,” notes Michael Mamo, managing director of Addis Exporter.
“I do believe it’s a wonderful place to start businesses. A lot of times we overlook the African countries, Ethiopia in particular, and think they are inaccessible or not entirely convenient for business but I do believe otherwise,” says Martha Adugna, owner and general manager of Residence Suite Hotel.
“The business tourism in Ethiopia, and especially in Addis Ababa, has been growing very quickly over the last ten years. It has progressed and has changed its direction quite often and in a way to target different interests,” says Martha Adugna, owner and general manager of Residence Suite Hotel.
