The Fahrenheit Brand in Nigeria – A Different Experience
“The strategy is to let people know that they are getting a different experience than they would do at other hotels.”
Interview with Kemdy McErnest, Public Relations/Booking Agent at The McErnest Company
What strategies are you using to promote the Fahrenheit brand?
The strategy is very clear. The question is how do you push a hotel? What are the main things to sell the hotel or the main revenues of it that get the public’s attention? First of all we start with the ambience of the hotel, the ambience of the rooms and then of course the ambience of everything else at the hotel. It is a very cool vibe here. The rooms are immaculately well done. The strategy is to let people know that they are getting a different experience than they would do at other hotels. We want to promote those means of revenue.
Are there any particular events that you are holding here?
We started off doing the normal jazz Sundays and one or two pool parties but now with the new year we are developing a new style of event. We have some great ideas in the pipeline; one will be kicking off in the next two weeks. I can’t really say more right now as it is top secret. Hopefully you will be here to experience it. Let’s just say it has a lot to do with fusion. We are going to be fusing different types of music and putting in everything else in between.

We can talk about it at the end of the month then. Is there anything else you would like to highlight?
Maison Fahrenheit and Fahrenheit Loft are very strong brands in the hospitality industry. If you want your pure lifestyle hotel, that would be Maison Fahrenheit. If you want your business traveller hotel that is discrete and quiet, that would be Fahrenheit Loft. The ambience is pretty much the same for both hotels but then again Fahrenheit Loft is a lot quieter. In Maison Fahrenheit, the tempo is a lot more up there because the Rue 80 rooftop is where all of the action is. The brand is trying to put a dent in the hospitality industry in Nigeria which has been growing for a very long time and move it on to various other things as well. I believe that very soon over the next ten to fifteen years, there should be Fahrenheit hotels across Africa and maybe hopefully around the world.
Tell us more about your background.
My background started in sales and then I fell into talent management in London. I did that for five years and then I came over to Nigeria and saw the opportunities here and I evolved into a PR/booking agency. I represent a few brands such as Keturah King from CNN Africa, Mary Dinah the Ambassador of Tourism for Lagos, and a few others. The opportunities that are here are totally amazing. I saw that and I decided to take advantage of it. Where my company the McErnest Company is going, is to become one of the fastest growing booking and PR agencies in Lagos.
