Interview with Joseph T.Q. Nartey, General Manager at AH Hotel & Conference
What are the key points of AH Hotel?
Even though the facility stands for a business hotel, we still promote the leisure facilities as well. You can come and relax, use the pool, use the gym, there is a bar where you can easily sit and have some drinks. We have a restaurant where you can order any food you want. It’s also known as the Afro Centric restaurant where we sell local dishes. We are the only hotel that I can say that has master size beds, even in our standard rooms. It’s all you can find in five-star hotels. We are a three-star hotel, but we provide the services of five-star hotels and that makes us unique among our peers. We are a business hotel, but our location is in a residential area. It is meant to be the site of the rich, but we have been able to draw business all the way from the central part of the city just because of the services we are rendering as compared to the other hotels in the same category.
Can you outline the food and beverage choices your hotel offers?
The restaurant is known for its range of local meals, international and continental dishes. Starting with breakfast, it caters for any kind of guest we have. We have all the categories from the cold section to the hot section to local dishes. If other guests like vegans or anyone else wants breakfast, there are plenty of choices for them too. When you go to the lunch meals as well, we have all the categories from the cold and hot sections to the local corner and from the local corner sometimes we have teams that offer Italian food and other international dishes and then we have desserts. For dinner, we have the same. We are also known for Sunday brunch. It is the biggest in this region. Our bar is of an international standard, and you can get any drink of your choice. All the international cocktails are represented. We have signature cocktails as well. The bar offers fresh juices and healthy options, and we have beers as well. We offer rums and spirits, whiskeys and cognacs, champagnes, and wines.
Is there anything that stands out for you since you have been here?
Before I joined, the facility was doing well but after joining, I have moved it from one step to another. I can confidently say that the facility has doubled its revenue, client feedback is positive and currently the AH brand is becoming a household name because of our strategies and engagements with clients. We invest heavily in training and that has been one of our hallmarks to success. From 2022 to 2023 we have exceeded our budget, so we are on the right track and that is because of the services we are rendering to clients.
What kinds of services can your clients expect?
When a client comes to the AH Hotel, we go the extra mile. If a client wants services that are not part of what we render, we still go to the extreme to provide them. So, once you engage, you are comfortable and you have all the services you can think of, even if you want to have a ride out in town, we can provide that. If you want a massage here, we can provide that. If you want us to get your tickets to see a movie, we can do that because we have personnel on-site. Anything you can think of as hospitality services.
Is there anything notable coming up in the near future?
The good thing about AH is that every month we have something happening. For example, in the month of May we have some attractive prices going on such as rooms heavily discounted. We are doing a rack rate of 1,200 for a standard room and it is heavily discounted for weekends at 999 a night. We have a junior suite going for 1,600 and we have other categories as well, all heavily discounted. We are always full because we have some NGOs that we work closely with, and we have some amazing packages that we give to our clients from the NGO level to the government. We have been about 85% occupied every month from January to now, so that tells you how busy we are. We strategize well when doing our marketing and it is very obvious that we are always providing the best of services and meeting our clients’ standards.
