Ghana’s Healthcare Leader Nyaho Medical Centre Opens Accra Central Clinic at The Octagon

After 47 years of delivering quality healthcare, Nyaho Medical Centre, the first private group medical practice in Ghana, opened its first satellite clinic in the business center of the capital of Ghana, Accra. Located on the ground floor of “The Octagon”, one of the largest commercial buildings in Ghana, this satellite clinic is the first of its kind, digitally connecting electronic patient records, diagnostic results and medical imaging securely to its main Hub in Airport Residential Area.

After several months of design and patient collaboration, the clinic launched on the 1st of November 2017 and contains four consulting rooms with a coordinated work flow for patients and clinical staff. The procedure room and two-bedded detention room enable minor operations and observation to be conducted in a safe and convenient location for patients and this is supported by a well-equipped diagnostic service including laboratory, ECG, Ultrasound, and X-ray. Patients also have the benefit of filling prescriptions at the inhouse dispensary.

The group medical philosophy of ‘specialists working together for patients’ is at the heart of the choice of services provided at the satellite clinic. These services are coordinated by dedicated Family Physicians and Medical officers in the Family Practice and enable access to ‘over 50’ specialists affiliated to the Centre either at specific specialist clinics at the satellite clinic or through telemedicine support. These include Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Neurology, Cardiology, and Dermatology amongst others.

With the long history of listening and responding to patients’ needs, a lot of attention was put into patients’ comfort and well-being and informed the design of comfortable waiting areas to reduce anxiety whilst waiting to see the doctor. The use of ambient lights, natural effects and inclusion of colour, were used to create a naturally cozy and warm environment.

No one looks forward to a hospital appointment and even less long waiting times. The new Nyaho Medical Centre is structured to render hassle-free and stress-free appointments. Clients can book online, by phone or walk-in. There is a helpful customer service team on-site to help with doctors’ appointments. Appointments start on time and clients are informed of any changes by email or phone call. The design of this clinic creates a total positive experience for clients. Free WIFI for clients and a focus on reducing waiting times with state-of-the art diagnostic equipment and improved work flows offer patients better value while waiting, prioritizing patients needs of time and quality care during the busy workday.

Doctors at this facility have real-time access to all patient folders electronically whether patients visit The Octagon branch or the main Centre at Airport Residential, meaning patients have their information coordinated and intact, irrespective of location. There will also be telemedicine support for remote specialist input starting in 2018 to promote collaborative healthcare and improve the doctor’s interaction with his/her clients.

Ambulance services are available on-site facilitating the transportation of medical emergencies that require hospital admission and specialist input.

Commenting on the opening of the new branch, the Managing Director of the Medical Centre, Dr. Elikem Tamaklo said the new branch would  help meet the growing demands of for quality healthcare solutions closer to patients. 

He added that the Centre places a high importance on data protection and security, and is registered with the National Communications Authority to allow for the enforcement of the Protection Act especially with the technologically advanced solutions at the core of the hospital’s operations.

The Accra Central branch of Nyaho Medical Centre at “The Octagon” is sited at the convenience of employees and beneficiaries working and living within the central business district of Accra and is open between the hours of 7am and 7pm on weekdays.
