Capital Markets in Côte d’Ivoire: 2012 Outlook for Capital Markets in West Africa
General Manager of BVRM talks about capital markets and outlook for 2012.
The Bourse Régionale des Valeurs Mobilières covers eight countries of the UEMOA (West African Economic and Monetary Union). In 2011, Côte d’Ivoire was marked by events that seriously affected economic activities for at least six months, if not longer. Despite all these unfortunate events that are not progressing ideally, the exchange market has only declined by about 5%.
The resume of 2011, if we remain at a decline of around 5 to 10%, will already have had a good performance compared to the other markets as a whole. We hope to do even better than this. We foresee a recovery in the future and thus more stability. This recovery will perhaps not arrive by the end of 2011, but it will be especially notable in 2012. Therefore, the prospects for 2011 are, in our opinion, not very interesting. It is better to look beyond to 2012 or 2013.
