Tororo Cement Limited (TCL) is the largest producer of cement in Uganda, producing an estimated 1.8 million metric tonnes annually and providing employment to around 8.000 people. The company was established in 1952 by the British as Uganda Cement Industries to manufacture cement from the abundantly available limestone in the area around the town of Tororo in the Eastern Region. Tororo Cement is accredited under ISO 9001 for its quality production and process and ISO 14001 for its effective environment and cleaner production. The company received the KACITA ‘Ani Mukozi’ award for outstanding performance in quality production and marketing, as well as the president’s Export Award (Gold category).
