Côte d’Ivoire is a country that once experienced very encouraging growth, but was brought down by catastrophic elections a decade ago. There are 3 main challenges for the Ivorian diplomacy.
1st major challenge for the Ivorian diplomacy is to ensure peace, safety and national reconciliation.
2nd major challenge is to re-inflate the national economy.
The 3rd major challenge is; because of the crisis a number of Ivorian citizens have fled to neighboring countries – we need to make them come back. 150,000 of them are in Liberia, 15,000 in Ghana, 4000 to 5000 in Togo.
Between the 1960s and the 1980s, the private sector was the main engine of economic growth. Between 1994 and 1998, private investment represented 65% of total investment. We want to achieve this once again, through BOT, so that basic infrastructure work such as building bridges, roads and rail network can be taken care of by private investors. That way the government will be able to focus on justice, army, police, etc.
