Top Free Zones in Jordan

Jordan has some of the oldest free zones in the Middle East with the Aqaba Free Zone being established in 1973. The free zones were established to promote export oriented industries and transit trade. Jordan has a number of free zones that enjoy full tariff exemptions and benefit from other business incentives.
Companies can be registered inside the free zones instead of with the Ministry of Industry and Trade. There are five public and several private free zones in Jordan all of which are strategically located.

Zarqa Free Zone

Jordan Investments Zarqa Free Zone was founded in 1983 on an area of 5.2 million m2 just 35km north of the capital city Amman on an international road network that links Jordan with the neighbouring countries. It houses around 65 licensed industrial companies and more than 175 warehouses.

Sahab Free Zone

Jordan Investments Sahab Free Zone was established in 1997 on an area of 62,000 m2 to serve the industrial investors at King Abdullah II Industrial Estate in Sahab and to aid in the establishment of export oriented industries.

Queen Alia International Airport Free Zone

Jordan Investments The free zone at Queen Alia International Airport was established in 1998 and covers an area of 120,000m2. It has been allocated for the purpose of serving transit trade and establishing light high tech, pollution free industries.

Al-Karak Free Zone

Jordan Investments Al Karak Free Zone was established in 2001 and is located at the Al-Hussein Bin Abdullah II Industrial Estate in Al-Karak to serve the industrial companies there. It covers an area of 150,000m2.

Al-Karama Free Zone

Jordan Investments Al-Karama Free Zone was established in 2004 and is located in the Al-Mafraq governorate about 360km east of the capital city Amman. It covers an area of 10 million m2 along the border with Iraq. It aims to be the main gateway for trade to Iraq from the outside world.

Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZ)

Jordan Investments ASEZ was established in 2001 and covers an area of 375,000m2 including 37km of coastline, sea ports and an international airport. It was ranked 20th in the Top 50 Free Zones of the Future for the year 2012-2013 by the FDI Magazine.

King Hussein Business Park (KHBP)

Jordan Investments The King Hussein Business Park is a complex located in west Amman. It used to be the administrative headquarters of the Jordanian Army but in 2010 it was converted into the KHBP with the aim of creating more than 120,000m2 of ready to use office space integrated with commercial, retail, hotel, amenities and public outlets. It is now home to over 40 major companies that include Hewlett Packard and Rubicon LG amongst many others.

Dead Sea Development Zone

Jordan Investments The Dead Sea Development Zone is located 55km from the capital city Amman and covers an area of approximately 40,000m2. It was established in 2010 and aims to enhance the development prospects, tourism revenue and economic impacts to Jordan that can be generated by the unique status of the Dead Sea.

Jabal Ajloun Development Zone

Jordan Investments The Jabal Ajloun Development zone is a 2.2 million m2 development area situated in a prime location in the region of Jabal Ajloun, one of Jordan´s most beautiful regions with its lush vegetation, forests, traditional villages and ancient sites. The aim of the free zone is to stimulate the economy of the area and spur the private sector to improve the living standards of the people in the region.

Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC)

Jordan Investments Aqaba Development Corporation (ADC) was launched in 2004 with the aim of unleashing the potential of the ASEZ by accelerating its economic growth and development. It was launched by the ASEZA and the Jordanian government. The ADC owns Aqaba’s seaport, airport and strategic parcels of land as well as important infrastructure and utilities. It also has the development and management rights for these assets.

The Development & Free Zones Commission (DFZC)

Jordan Investments The DFZC is the entity that is financially and administratively responsible for creating, regulating, facilitating and monitoring the Development Zones in Jordan. It was founded in 2008 and aims to increase investment in the Kingdom of Jordan by empowering the private sector to invest in the zones and in so doing encourages economic growth and improved living standards.
