Coreen Madanha of InvestIQ Oak Wealth on Zimbabwe’s Capital Markets and Investment Opportunities

In this section of the interview, Coreen Madanha discusses the current state of Zimbabwe’s capital markets and the investment opportunities she sees emerging for both local and international investors. She highlights the development of real estate investment trusts, or REITs, as an important area of opportunity, alongside ETFs and the newly launched Zimbabwe Entrepreneurship Exchange, ZEEX.

Madanha explains that ZEEX could play a significant role in supporting Zimbabwe’s largely informal economy by giving entrepreneurs and traders greater access to capital. She sees strong potential for patient capital to support businesses that are already performing well but currently rely on informal funding sources.

She also identifies the Zimbabwean diaspora as an important source of investment capital. While diaspora funds are often used for family support and consumption, she believes a portion could also be directed towards productive investment and national development.

The interview further examines the recent performance of the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange and the Victoria Falls Stock Exchange. Madanha points to strong year to date growth in both markets, including the significant expansion of VFEX market capitalisation and the impact of Old Mutual’s return. She also cites the strong performance of individual stocks such as Padenga as evidence of market growth.

Finally, she highlights investment opportunities in Zimbabwe’s mining sector, particularly through supporting small scale miners, and describes Zimbabwe as a “hidden gem” with considerable potential for investors.
