Asia Aerospace City (AAC) aims to make Malaysia the hub for Aerospace OEMs in South East Asia and beyond. It leverages on various engagement strategies with the Aerospace OEMs across the globe. MARA initiated this idea more than a year ago. MARA is a strategic government organisation that champions capability building for the nation through its activities in education, entrepreneur development and investments. The annual growth of the MRO sector in the Middle East is 6.7%. This is the highest growth rate in this sector anywhere in the world. The growth of the aviation sector in Saudi Arabia is slower, this is because of the lack of MRO facilities.
The government has invested about 50 billion in funding for the development of rail infrastructure, since 1990. The Prime minister announced last year that they would spend another 160 billion Ringgits until 2020.
The field of logistics is now industrial. There are two important areas to improve: one being the state of the roads, and the other one being the customs regulations regarding new equipment that is more productive and secure. In my opinion these are the two main things that need to be addressed so that the transport and logistics sector can be more dynamic and for it to represent a larger percentage of the national GDP.
