Africure Pharmaceuticals Expands Affordable Medicine Production Across West Africa

In this section of the interview, Hari Anand discusses Africure Pharmaceuticals’ major pharmaceutical products and outlines the company’s ambitions for growth across French speaking West Africa over the next two to five years.

Among its key products is Paracetamol 500mg, which is widely supplied across French speaking Africa and plays an important role in fever management, including in cases of malaria and other infections. Africure Pharmaceuticals also manufactures paracetamol suspension for paediatric patients. Other major products include Cotrimoxazole 960mg, primarily used for immunocompromised patients, including people living with HIV, as well as Cotrimoxazole 480mg and syrup formulations. The company also produces Albendazole tablets and suspension for deworming treatments, alongside a broad portfolio of antibiotics, painkillers, and other pharmaceutical products.

Looking ahead, Africure Pharmaceuticals expects to become a €20 million pharmaceutical supply company serving French speaking West Africa within the next two years. This growth will be supported by the expansion of its beta lactam manufacturing facility and increased syrup production capacity, enabling the company to broaden its supply of essential and affordable medicines across the region.

Hari Anand also expects Africure Pharmaceuticals to become one of the largest employers in Côte d’Ivoire’s pharmaceutical sector, with approximately 250 employees operating across three manufacturing plants.

Beyond commercial growth, the company’s strategy remains centred on accessibility. By focusing on branded generic medicines rather than expensive imported brands, Africure Pharmaceuticals aims to produce affordable medicines at scale, create local employment, strengthen pharmaceutical manufacturing in Côte d’Ivoire, and reduce the country’s dependence on imported pharmaceutical products.
