Baraton Trade wants to primarily focus on building infrastructure before they start thinking about entering the mining industry in Ethiopia.
“We started 6 years ago with a capital of roughly 500,000 US dollars,” says Aboma Taye, managing director of Baraton Trade. The company has grown at least ten times that since then.
“When I started Flintstone in 1991, there was a change of government in Ethiopia from a military government and it was a whole different market for construction,” recalls Tsedeke Yihune, owner of Flintstone Engineering.
“Flintstone has been in the business of engineering for construction for the last 22 years,” notes Tsedeke Yihune, owner of Flintstone Engineering. The company has only moved into the real estate sector about 5 years ago.
“In the next twenty years, there is a national goal of getting to be a middle income country. We want MIDROC to play the leading role when we reach that goal,” reveals Jemal Ahmed, Chairman of Horizon Company.
“The Ethiopian economy has started from scratch. Twenty years ago in Ethiopia, private company owners were not allowed to have more than 500,000 Ethiopian birr legally,” explains Jemal Ahmed, Chairman of Horizon Company.
“The pre-feasibility study on a new gold mine at Metekel, which is located 500 km from Addis in the northern part of the country, is completed,” announces Dr Arega Yirdaw, CEO of MIDROC Ethiopia Technology Group.
Today, MIDROC Ethiopia Technology Group has 20 companies and is involved in different sectors including mining, agriculture, real estate, construction, manufacturing, services and education.
