Electricité de Djibouti manages the public electricity service throughout the country and has legal responsibility for electricity transmission and distribution. It operates generating facilities and the electricity interconnection with neighbouring Ethiopia, while developing projects involving solar power, geothermal energy and expansion of the national grid.
EDD is also pursuing a major expansion of domestic generation capacity. Its 2026 budget forecasts revenues of more than 40 billion Djiboutian francs, demonstrating the scale of the utility within the national economy.
