The End of 4th Arab Youth Media Forum

Information Affairs Authority, Manama, 29 February 2012: The fourth Arab Youth Media Forum ended today, held in conjunction with Manama named as the Arab Press Capital this year.

Choosing Manama as the Arab press capital for 2012 recognizes the development Bahraini media is witnessing in terms of Freedom of expression and journalistic rights.

During the opening of The Arab Youth Forum yesterday, HE Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al-Khalifa, President of IAA, said “Choosing Manama as the Arab press capital for 2012 recognizes the development Bahraini media is witnessing in terms of Freedom of expression and journalistic rights. The forum also comes as the IAA restructures its organizational chart, removing the Press Administration and creating a media outreach department, which enables the IAA to fulfill its role as a fair and balanced media source.”

At the outset of the forum program leading and pioneering media outlets and personalities from the Arab world were awarded for their outstanding role in making a difference in Arab-speaking media.

On the sidelines of the forum, several books were launched by leading Bahraini authors, along with an art gallery telling the story of Bahrain’s lively history of media and journalism.

Stretching over two days, the forum included discussion sessions with influential Arab Media personalities, tackling current Arab media issues, such as media freedom, social media, and censorship.

In related news, the IAA, Bahrain Journalists Association and Arab Youth Media Forum have signed an agreement to create a program in Bahrain to train and develop potential talent in all media fields.
