Information Affairs Authority, Manama, Bahrain, 14 January 2012: Major-General Ibrahim Al Ghaith, the General Inspector of the Ministry of the Interior of Bahrain, has released details of the legal investigation into the disappearance of Yousif Ahmed Abas, which was begun on Wednesday (January 11), when the young man’s family filed a missing persons case with the Muharraq Goverernorate Police. The father of the missing man stated that his son suffered from psychological problems, sometimes going to the beaches in the area and requiring assistance in returning home.

A search was launched immediately, which included ruling out that Abas had been detained for questioning or was wanted by police in any criminal manner. The missing man’s parents were informed that their son had not been detained and that the case would remain open until he was located.
Around 5:00 PM On Friday (January 13) police received a call reporting a dead body found at the Amwaj Islands. Police responded to the scene and it was determined that the body was that of Yousif Ahmed Abas. An autopsy performed by the medical examiner determined that Abas had been dead for more than 24 hours and that the cause of death was drowning.
